IMPORTANT message for all final year students who use Mahara

Before you lose your Goldsmiths IT Services account you'll need to save your work from Mahara.

To do this, you need to package up your Portfolio in two formats - as a standard HTML Standalone Web Site, and in the LEAP2A portfolio format.

Further to my last, I've received a few queries about the expiry date for final year students' IT Services accounts.

ITS Helpdesk confirmed that students taking degrees keep their accounts until their graduation. There may be some variation for shorter courses - if you are unsure you're advised to contact helpdesk@gold.ac.uk from your Goldsmiths account, or call 020 7919 7555 with your username.

And further to my last, I've had a flurry of queries from students unable to log in and wondering if their accounts have been closed. At this time of year if you're behind on fees or Library fines, you may find yourself temporarily blocked from accessing Goldsmiths' IT services

So if you can't log in and believe you should be able to, check this troubleshooting guide first.

Does Mahara have an OS X 10.4 version for download? And if I cannot get the Mahara software, how will I be able to digitally retrieve my portfolio?

Hi Rowan,

No need to download a personal version of Mahara - you can export your Mahara work as a HTML Standalone Web Site. That can be viewed in any web browser. Instructions at:

PS As I said in my initial message and in the instructions linked above, do also download in LEAP2A format - this means that if you do have access another compatible e-portfolio system, you can upload it and resume where you left off.

Hi Mira,

Does this apply to all final year students or just those in the art and TV environments. For instance, I am a Social Work student and unsure if this applies to my department.

Hi David,

The instructions I outlined earlier on this discussion thread are for if:

You are a student who is about to leave Goldsmiths (and therefore lose your IT Services login)
And you've been using Mahara and want to save your work

Hopefully you'd know if you'd been using Mahara - it looks a bit like Facebook, has a little Mahara logo at the top, and you enter it via the front page of learn.gold.
