In my irregular series on internet sites to pilfer for free content here's one that is making headlines at the moment: Scribd.

Scribd is a document sharing site, onto which users can upload documents (i.e. books) they would like to share and which others can download. If you want to download a document you need an account, but it's well worth it. Today's personal highlight was finding a pdf of Sein und Zeit (searchable!!!), a perfect compliment to the two hardback copies I own (and paid for) which are falling apart at the seams after only 3 years of ownership and which will go up in flames any time I decide to throw them on a bonfire!

Just to be clear, scribd isn't about copyrighted material - it is about sharing original writings and documents and storing them. Scribd uses iPaper, which is lightweight, and displays documents beautifully and as originally intended across all platforms. Scribd are keen to dispel any notions that they encourage uploading of copyrighted material, and that it is their policy to "immediately remove copyrighted material when we receive notices from copyright holders."
Exactly. Go use it *today*.
