Foxit free PDF document viewer: but only for windows! After a student recommended the foxit pdf reader recently, I promised to test it out and report back. Since adobe reader is standard and freely available – why would anyone consider another reader except for novelty value? Because adobe acrobat reader takes ages to load, hogs a huge amount of space (33.5 Mb) and version 8 is incompatible with firefox 3. In comparison, foxit is lightweight, fast and comes with a firefox plugin that works a treat.
Foxit It does have a few disadvantages: crucially, it is not available for Macs, and the foxit pdf creator and editor are available for free only as evaluation versions. Foxit will leave an ugly little stamp to that effect on the created pdf. For this reason, I recommend you download for free PrimoPDF, Like adobe acrobat, foxit is not open source. If open source is your thing then you could go for Sumatra, an open source pdf reader: Sumatra takes up even less disk space, loads fairly quickly but has no extensive features – the search facility is very cumbersome. But at least Sumatra’s logo is a tribute to the cover of Watchmen, the classic graphic novel by Alan Moore. Sumatra's logo - homage to Alan Moore's Watchmen
