Concerning “PDF trouble”

A particular issue has arisen with PDF files, and although the fault does not lie with the learn.gold software (moodle), it has become a problem with the latest upgrade. Some users may experience that PDF files freeze their computer, or simply present a blank page or crash their browser. This has to do with a compatibility issue between firefox version 3 and acrobat reader 8You can download version 9 of the adobe acrobat reader by clicking here.
All open access machines on campus have firefox 2.0.0.6 and adobe acrobat reader 8 installed, so PDF files should open without any problem. IE security information message - very annoying IE (Internet Explorer) users should be ok too, but we recommend the use of firefox, to avoid the very annoying and unnecessary security information message with every page change. (See picture)

The recent upgrade of learn.gold has brought us many exciting benefits (see Mira's post of 12th November), and just a few tiny glitches here and there which we are working on – please let us know if you have noticed anything else odd by contacting celt@gold.ac.uk with as much detail about your problem as possible.

Thanks!

Or alternatively use foxit! A faster, smaller (and all round better) PDF reader.

Thank you for that - I will try it out and report on it. If it's smaller it can only be a good thing.
