PHISHING ATTACKS
Recently there has been a flood of so-called "phishing" emails to goldsmiths email accounts. IT services warn about this on a regular basis, but it is good to reiterate the message:
"Phishing is a fraudulent attempt to acquire information such as usernames,
passwords and credit card details, by sending an e-mail which pretends to
be from a reputable source."
In fact, as a general piece of advice , you should always assume that no genuine source - be it your bank, your college email providers, or other email providers, online store accounts you might actually have and so on - will ever ask you for your password via email. Take that as a dead give away! Any such email should be immediately deleted (do not respond, or even click on any link). For more details read this from the (genuine!) IT services website.
