FILE SHARING & FILE CONVERSION

Somebody sent you a wps file and don't know what to do with it?  Use MS Works and want to send your document to someone who doesn't? We don't all use the same applications and this can create problems.
There are ways to overcome this:

1. You can change your file's extension (those three letters behind the name and the dot). So instead of saving mymasterpiece.wps, save it as mymasterpiece.rtf.
2. You can also convert your document into a pdf, which we recommend.
There are open source converters you can download, for example http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/
PDF files are universally readable (not throughout the universe, perhaps, but from most computers).
3. You can use an online conversion site, such as: http://www.zamzar.com/
You simply upload a file, choose the format to which you want it converted, enter an email address -and some time later you will be sent your converted file. Easy!

A note on point 1: this works SOMETIMES. In some versions of Microsoft Works you can SAVE your document AS a doc file or an rtf file. And sometimes it is necessary to add the .doc extension to MAC word documents so that a PC can read it.

But it is BEST to use a converter, either with a desktop application or online, to convert when necessary and ideally to a universal format such as pdf.
